News Article One

FENCE is an acronym for Families of Episcopalians Nurturing within the College Environment. Currently, there is one active component to this ministry. It is referred to as the Family Component. The goal of this component is to keep the AECST’s undergraduate college students involved in the life of the Episcopal Church while attending college away from home. In October 2015, we began planning for a second component involving the mentoring of students from the community at-large who attend regional colleges. Roll-out is anticipated for the 2017-2018 academic year. FENCE is administered by a coordinator, with support from the AECST’s assistant rector who is responsible for youth and young adult ministries and programs.

News Article Four

  • Mentoring Component: This component of FENCE is an outreach program for undergraduate college students from the community at-large matriculating at local/regional institutions. With the students’ major courses of study as the focus, each student applicant would be paired with an AECST parishioner who, as a professional, is educated in and/or works in (or is retired from) the focus area that is the student’s major course of study. It is important to note that there is no religious aspect to this component of FENCE. We, therefore, refer to it as a program rather than a ministry.
